yeah... wot are we searching in life? the answer up till now for me is happiness... real happiness... 快乐

scenario 1: An intern offer the family members of a stage 4 COPD pt to sign DNR based on wot she read on the journals (EBM). Wot do you think?

I think medicine is just not about drugs and surgery. There is something more. As one specialist told me... medicine is about how to get to your diagnosis and later how to care for them (the patients). drugs and surgery ? any idiots can read up the management and do it...

i dont know... it's just something i wanna share... all real experience tho !!! haha

Based on the scenario, Initially I think that that intern does not give any chances to the COPD pt but a death sentence. Does she have to believe and follow blindly whatever journal says? Does the pt deserve to die? However, on the other hand, signing DNR would be a relief for the pt. Instead of being breathless, lying in the bed 24/7, and depending on others to live, sometimes death is a better option.

There was an old man, 70+ yr old, diagnosed of colon Ca which had already spread to spleen. The family members decided to have a resection done. however before that surgery, the doc required the pt to undergo bypass, or else pt would unable to withstand the stress during colon resection. So, is there a need for resection? What do u think?

I get what you mean, there are always grey zone in whatever we do. No right or wrong. Whatever option we choose might be correct, but might be otherwise; hence there is always no definite answer.

Hm, i still dun understand about the 圆满 yet! 道义不够深! =P

not bad not bad. mmm i dont know how to explain the 圆满 in the way i meant deep down... nvm... good to have a discussion here...

actually all the time we as doctors are only making suggestions to the patients, dont you think so... but a number of malaysian doctors still tend to impose their values on the patients, which i think it way off. oh wells, thanks for the sharing. all of us shall discuss further.
